Textile printing uses various techniques to transfer designs precisely and durably onto textiles. Two of these techniques offered by MVP Custom are DTG (Direct-to-Garment) and DTF (Direct-to-Film) . Both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, which vary depending on the application. MVP Custom also offers high-quality embroidery using modern Melco embroidery machines—an ideal complement to the printing processes for a comprehensive finishing solution.
DTG (Direct-to-Garment)
DTG is a printing method that prints the design directly onto the fabric. It works similarly to an inkjet printer, embedding special inks directly into the fabric's fibers.
Advantages of DTG:
- Detailed prints : DTG is excellent for complex designs and fine details, especially photorealistic motifs.
- Soft feel : Because the ink penetrates the fibers, the fabric remains flexible and soft.
- Environmentally friendly : DTG usually uses water-based inks, which makes it more environmentally friendly.
- Ideal for cotton fabrics : This method works particularly well on natural fibers such as cotton and offers long-lasting print results.
Disadvantages of DTG:
- Limited material choice : DTG works less well on polyester and dark synthetic fabrics, which limits its applications.
- Cost-intensive for large print runs : Very suitable for individual pieces and small quantities, but less economical for large quantities compared to other techniques.
- Longer production time : Especially for complex designs, the printing time per textile can be relatively high.
DTF (Direct-to-Film)
DTF is a method in which the design is first printed on a special film and then transferred to the textile using heat and pressure.
Advantages of DTF:
- Versatility : DTF can be applied to a wide variety of fabrics, including cotton, polyester, nylon, and blended fabrics.
- Vivid colors : The printed foil creates particularly vibrant colors that appear intense even on dark fabrics.
- High durability : The DTF print is durable and remains intact even after many washes.
- Ideal for long runs : DTF is economical and suitable for medium to large quantities.
Disadvantages of DTF:
- Thicker feel : Compared to DTG, the applied motif feels a little firmer because the film rests on the fabric surface.
- Preparation required : DTF requires precise preparation and the application of an adhesive powder to ensure a permanent bond to the fabric.
- More sensitive to moisture : The print can suffer more quickly from moisture and heat if not treated properly.
